a newsletter.
cloud collecting is my newsletter where I share 3 question interviews on creativity with women & gender expansive artists, ‘women of ambient’ mixes & archives + links to marine eyes related updates. I named this newsletter cloud collecting after a song from my first solo album, ‘idyll,’ which is about connecting to childlike creativity and I hope these bite-sized emails will inspire you in your own creative life.
how i got here.
My name is Cynthia Bernard, and I’m a Los Angeles based producer, artist and curator. I make music as marine eyes and have released with the labels Past Inside the Present, Stereoscenic and on my own. I’m also in a project awakened souls with my husband, longtime electronic producer, James Bernard. Ever since I was little, I have been enamored with the creative process, discovering new music (thanks to my parents’ large record, tape + cd collection) and being immersed in art of many mediums.
For International Women’s Day in 2021, I shared a playlist of songs I love from women who make ambient music. When I would mention to someone that I make ambient music, people would often comment that ambient is a male-dominated genre and I deeply knew that was far from the truth. This mix series was partially born as a way to break that limiting belief and several years later, I’m still discovering new artists (with a back-log of artists I want to add) plus sharing beloved repeats to the series. In 2022, I had the honor to bring 22 women artists from around the world together for the mental health benefit, Healing Together via PITP. This project will always be close to my heart.
As a true gemini, I wanted to find a way to bring many of my loves together (I have never been bored in my entire life) and this brought me here. A place to share creative interviews, ‘women of ambient’ mixes & archives + little updates on my own creative offerings.
