Cynthia Bernard aka marine eyes is a musician, curator and artist residing in the greater Los Angeles area. Bernard was raised in Northern California, growing up in a household where music was valued deeply. When Cynthia’s grandmother had a stroke taking away her ability to talk but not her ability to sing, she became mesmerized by music’s use as a form of therapy.
For many years she kept her music to herself, close friends and family but upon meeting her husband James Bernard in 2014, the two started writing music together and sharing their ambient project awakened souls. In 2021, her debut solo album ‘idyll’ was released via Stereoscenic Records.
In 2021, she launched a mix series showcasing women in ambient music, and has since continued to feature both the series and interviews with women and gender-expansive artists through her newsletter, cloud collecting. Additionally, in 2022, she curated the mental health benefit compilation Healing Together, which brought together 23 women artists from around the world, released via Past Inside the Present. In 2026, cloud collecting expanded into a label with gentle voices, vol.1, a compilation spotlighting women artists, created in collaboration with Echoes Blue. The release marks the beginning of an annual series.
Alongside her curation and music, she frequently uses her own light-infused photography and artwork across both her own albums and those of other artists through the studio she runs with her husband, Ambient Mountain House.
She now regularly finds herself lost and found building miniature worlds to explore the healing qualities of sound and art, cementing important moments she has experienced while welcoming stillness in nature.
